Bringing In A Happy New Year!

I’m going to be very honest, 2020 wasn’t the most amazing year when it came to new music. It wasn’t anything great devoid of music either…

ahem, back to the point.

Unmoved by this year’s releases, I found comfort in revisiting songs that had a great amount of sentimental value attached to them. I consider gratitude to be one of the most important and valued emotions that helped me get through this shit-bowl of a year, and that same feeling is going to translate through to the second blog.

Below’s a list of 10 songs that don’t belong to the year 2020, but managed to make it better :

  1. WELCOME HOME by Radical Face (2007)

The song found new life late this year through the magic of social media! A chiming start to the song inferred the beginning of something fresh to me, and hence makes it to the first number on the list.

2. BABA O’RILEY by The Who (1971)

This one will put a smile on your face, I promise. You’re going to look forward to things you didn’t even plan on thinking about. This is a great song, and also happens to be one of my most favourite things to listen to, all-time.

3. MR’S COLD by Kings Of Convenience (2009)

The list progresses into a slight mellowness with track number 3, and transitions well instrumentally.
‘Mrs Cold’ makes me ‘Mr Glowed’ with happiness haha…

never mind…
please don’t contribute to my bounce rate.
It’s a lovely song, we’ll leave it at that.

4. SON OF MAN by Phil Collins (1999)

So much nostalgia attached to this one. This song is great, this movie is great.
Phil Collins is one of the greatest vocalists of all time, and his voice makes you feel warm in your heart.

5. PORCELAIN by Moby (1999)

Classic.
Moby’s music is always amazing. Brought back to my list of favourites this year by a very close person who shall not be named (lol), Porcelain is a beautiful song. The piano, the rhythm;
it’s a sit down, observe, and retrospect track.

6. LOVE ME AGAIN by John Newman (2013)

We’ve gone through half, and it was a more patient and understanding side of songs to the left of the median. It’s now the right time to get hyped.
John Newman absolutely kills on the vocals and manages to enliven the mood at the same time… that was a good one.

7. BABY BLUE by BadFinger (1971)

I don’t have much to say, just feel the song and envision a joyful journey that you’re about to embark.

8. RAGING by Kygo ft. Kodaline (2016)

Did you know the alter ego ‘Kygo’ was coined by adjoining the first two letters of his first and last name?
Me neither - Kyrre Goland!

If I was made to guess I’d presume it meant euphoria in a Scandinavian language.

9. DANCIN’ by Aaron Smith — Krono Remix (2013)

I actually heard this song for the first time this year! But considering when it was released I feel like I can be excused and it can be included hehe.
The song made WAVES on Reels and TikToks online, and there’s no wondering why, it sets a mood, it makes you feel good. It’s a fun song!

10. BELIEVE by Cher (1998)

And finally number 10.

If we’re talking about happiness, we’ve got to have a dance and sing-a-long number on the list. ‘Believe’ is an absolute vibe and needs to be played more everywhere. Play it in the car, play it in the clubs, play it in the pubs, play it while you have a shower and have enough room to groove.
PLAY THIS SONG because it’s going to lift your spirits.

Well, that’s it for Blog Number 2. I hope you guys enjoy listening to the songs listed here, they mean a lot to me. Also note, the songs have been placed sequentially for the purpose that if you’ve enjoyed them, you can retain the list as is and build a playlist around it! I gave the transitions importance while curating it haha.

This year has been a big compilation of hardships and negative reactions to certain circumstances. Do be grateful for even the tiniest of tiny things you have in your life, hold on to things like music, and trust them to uplift you when the time comes.

I’ll see you in 2021. Ciao :)
